Swimming at Brooklands
Swimming at Brooklands School
At Brooklands School, swimming is an important part of our physical education curriculum and wider development programme. We are proud to offer regular swimming opportunities that focus on skill development, safety and confidence in the water.
Skill Development
Our swimming sessions are designed to meet the individual needs of our pupils, helping them to:
- Develop water confidence and enjoyment
- Learn basic swimming strokes and techniques
- Improve coordination, strength and motor skills
- Build independence in and around the pool
Safety in the Water
Water safety is a key priority. Pupils are supported to:
- Understand pool rules and routines
- Practise safe entry and exit from the pool
- Learn how to float, move, and respond to instructions
- Build awareness of personal safety and boundaries
Confidence and Enjoyment
Swimming is a fun and therapeutic experience for many of our pupils. We focus on:
- Creating a calm, supportive environment
- Using sensory-friendly approaches
- Celebrating small steps of progress
- Encouraging pupils to explore and enjoy the water at their own pace
Swimming Provision by Site
Wray Park Site: Pupils swim every week at the Wray Park swimming pool. Sessions are tailored to individual needs and delivered by experienced staff.
Alexander Road Site: Pupils swim for one term block of 12 weeks per year, either at Wray Park or at the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley. This ensures all pupils have access to high-quality swimming experiences.
Partnership and Progress
We work closely with families to ensure swimming is a positive experience for every child. Progress is tracked and celebrated, and staff are happy to discuss individual goals or needs.
If you have any questions about our swimming provision, please contact your child’s class teacher or the school office.
