Macaw Class
There are 9 children in Macaw class, 5 girls and 4 boys. We have a teacher and 5 assistants to help us to learn.
We have been working hard on our total communication in class using a mix of talk, signing, communication books, symbols, vocalisation, switches and speaking devices incorporating all our children's communication needs in order for them to have a voice.
We follow both the yellow and blue pathway because of our diverse needs, so we love to learn through exploration and stimulating our senses, but also incorporate Read write Inc, maths mastery and enjoy structured learning too. We enjoy group learning with short, sharp and 'irresistible' input with lots of laughs. We all enjoy music and instruments in the class, and this is a great way to focus our learning. Dance massage is a firm favourite as we use a topic with a range of songs to do a tactile massage on each other using a variety of objects to feel the 'texture' of music and develop an awareness of beat.
Some of Macaw class have a range of equipment to help with mobility eg. standing frames, walkers, and they use these alongside our physically able group to take part in a range of activities.
