Butterfly Class

Butterfly class is a red pathway class with a mixture of children in reception and Year 1. We have 9 pupils in class and we are based at the Alexander Road site. We follow the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and adapt it to the individual needs of each child, as well as incorporating the Early Years Red Pathway Curriculum of Brooklands school.  At this early developmental stage of the children’s learning, it is important to nurture their play, preferences and choices.  We use a range of communication methods such as verbal communication, symbols, objects of reference, PECS, body language and Makaton signing.

In Butterfly, class staff nurture and facilitate the child’s desire to learn through play. Throughout the day there are lots of opportunities for short attention and listening group activities that promote social enjoyment, creativity, engagement and anticipation. Throughout the day we also have circle times linked to Maths Mastery and Read Write Inc as well as an Attention Autism "bucket" session a day. We incorporate lots of sensory exploration, sensory stories and songs within our day in Butterfly class.

We have 6 staff in Butterfly class.  A Teacher (Bronte), Two part time LTA's (Di and Laima)  and 4 TA’s (Jo, Annah, Megan and Leah)

Our theme for the first half of the Autumn Term is 'All about me'. You can look at the curriculum planner below to get an idea of what our week in Butterfly class looks like.
