Star Class Timetable

This half term has been a busy one so far! We've had four new children join us in Star class. All of the children have enjoyed getting to know their new class mates and the new children have settled in well. This term our theme has been minibeasts. We did four weeks work on this theme and are now finishing the term with two mini 'theme' weeks of 'Mummies' and 'Easter'.

Week 6 - Week Beginning 1.4.19 - This week has been an Easter themed week. We played with lots of easter toys, made easter hats and cards, had an easter egg hunt in the playgrounds and met the Easter bunny. All the children who were in school on Friday morning were stars. They all walked down to the church, enjoyed dancing at the Easter service and then walked back to school. Have a super holiday everyone!

Week 5. Week beginning 25.3.19 - This week we have been thinking about our mummies. We read the story 'I like it when...' and thought about what we like doing with our mummies. We also enjoyed making surprise cards and presents for Mother's day. Our hands were very soft when we finished and we hope theirs will be too!

Weeks 1 - 4 (Mini-beasts) Apologies for getting behind on uploading photos. Here are a few from the first 4 weeks of this half term. We had two sensory stories; 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and 'Creepy Crawly Calypso'. We found some minibeasts outside and lots of plastic bugs hiding in our sensory play. We's also been working hard on our gross and fine motor skills and exploring our own and others emotions.

This half term Star Class topic is nursery rhymes. We are focusing on a different song each week and exploring many more through our play.

Week beginning 14.1.19 This week we have been learning and playing linked to Humpty Dumpty. We've enjoyed building walls and knocking things off, counting eggs, ordering the song, making and drawing pictures of Humpty Dumpty and dropping objects to discover whether they bounce, break or splat!

Week beginning 7.1.19 This week we have been focusing on the wheels on the bus. The camera wasn't out as much as it should have been. So we didn't get photos of the lovely bus pictures we made, us playing in our cardboard bus, exploring different noises made on the bus and playing with the bus small world. On Friday we took lots of pictures of everyone enjoying music therapy and eating independently at lunch time.

This half term in Star Class our topic is: Time and seasonal change. We will be learning about autumn, the change into winter and then Christmas!

Week beginning 26.11.18 This week Christmas has started in Star Class! We started practising for the Christmas show, made stocking decorations to go up in the hall, and enjoying building a snowman out of bricks. We also enjoyed snowball smash activities and wrote letters to Santa telling him what we like playing with.

Week beginning 12.11.18 This week we have still been thinking about seasonal change in autumn and have been choosing what sensory experiences we like about in the autumn (the wind, and the dark were very popular). We have also found lots of time to explore and play, including making loud and quiet sounds on a variety of items. Most of the photographic evidence from this week is from Friday when we had a Diwali celebration. We played with lights and colour, made messy firework splats outside, decorated the classroom with powder paint and made diva lamps out of salt dough.

Week beginning 5.11.18 This week we made glittery fireworks on Monday, practised some more of our Boccia skills and moved our bodies up and down and side to side to help with our mark making. We also all really enjoyed the new star class trampoline and have been fantastic at waiting and taking turns.

Week beginning 29.10.18 This first week back after half term we have been getting back into our school routines. We had a few breaks from the classroom in the sunshine in the castle playground, sliding, climbing and playing with the leaves. We did more playing with the leaves, wind, rain and cold temperature in our autumn sensory story. On Wednesday we had a spooky day. We did pumpkin painting, pumpkin tactile play and spooky cooking. We also enjoyed our new PE session with Gary the PE teacher, we learnt lots of boccia skills. We also had a birthday this week, we enjoyed singing 'happy birthday' and eating lots of chocolate cake!

Week beginning 8.10.18 This week we have been thinking about our friends and family. We had the sensory story Goat goes to School to start the week and found goat's friends hiding in soft-play. We have been thinking about our friends in Star Class and learning to take turns and play nicely. We have also been using our special fob to open the doors allowing us to do jobs, such as taking the register. One of our favourite sessions is choose and do. We love the hiding song and pump the balloon. On Friday we had a harvest day. We did apple printing and made chocolate chip cookies. In the afternoon we all walked to the church with our parents and had a lovely Harvest celebration with the rest of the school.

Week Beginning 1.10.18 This week has been our second week learning about Hygiene. We are all getting really good at following our timetables and joining our friends for circle time. We've been choosing our names to help count up how many children are in Star Class each day. We enjoyed the sensory story The Big Red Bath again and re-told it with props. We've also been washing clothes and hanging them up to dry. Towards the end of the week we had two birthdays in Star Class, so we did lots of singing and had a special birthday bucket, where we made a cake out of flour, put the candles on and then blew it all away!

Week beginning 24.9.18 This week we have been learning about hygiene. We enjoyed the sensory story the Big Pink Bath and enjoyed splashing the animals, blowing bubbles and cleaning the dollies and the giant teeth. We've also been really focused during attention bucket sessions and have started taking turns and coping with not getting a turn for some of the activities. Some of us have also enjoyed a bit of peace and quiet, working independently at tasks at our new workstation area.

Week beginning 17.9.18 This week has been a very exciting, busy week in Star Class! For some of us, school is a new and tiring experience but we've all enjoyed our time in school this week, exploring, playing and meeting new friends. We are getting used to class routines, including hello time, sitting down for snack and dinner, and the attention bucket. The bucket is very exciting and has lots of fun activities, such as flying balloons, stomp rockets and the blanket roll game.

Week Beginning 10.9.18 This week in Star Class we have been getting used to our old routines. We've enjoyed exploring the classroom and interacting with our friends. We have been learning about different parts of the body and using our bodies to make noises and marks in different textures. We've also been using our senses to explore the world around us.
