Star Class Timetable

Week beginning 9/7/18 This week has been arts week at Brooklands School and we have taken a trip around the world! We started on Monday by visiting France. We did the can-can and built the Eiffel Tower. On Tuesday we went down under to Australia. We did lots and lots of jumping like kangaroos, made australian flags and played the didgeridoo. On Wednesday we visited the continent of Africa. We made animals faces and binoculars. Then we went on a safari to find as many animals as we could. On Thursday we went to the polar regions. It was very cold, but we enjoyed playing with ice, 'snow' and arctic animals. Finally, on Friday we visited South America and had a fantastic carnival to finish off the week.

Week beginning 2/7/18 We started this week with The Little Red Hen sensory story. We helped her plant her seeds, cut the corn, grind the corn and make the bread. When our bread rolls were baked we cut and buttered them. We have also been doing lots of fine motor activities. Our favourites are using the squirty bottles and sticking pipe-cleaners into colanders. Now that the big build is finished, we've been exploring the new nature trail and hobbit hut in the sensory garden. On Friday we had a music session and really enjoyed exploring different beats, tapping and clapping them out on different instruments.

Week Beginning 25/6/18 This week we have been continuing with the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We enjoyed re-telling the story, dressing up in the costumes and playing with the props. We also had a fine motor afternoon, exploring mark making and using our hands in different ways. We ventured into the big playground and had a brilliant time on the castle, climbing up, exploring the playground art and sliding down the slide. On Friday we had a fantastic time, meeting a giant african snail, giant millipede, tortoise and a snake. We looked, listened and used gentle hands to touch.

Week beginning 18/6/18 This week we have been learning about the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We started with a sensory story, and enjoyed dressing up as characters and packing things in the basket to take to Granny's. We baked some bread to take to Granny and then turned the bread rolls into sandwiches. We have also been working hard on our fine motor skills, posting, threading and mark making. On Friday morning we enjoyed singing and dancing along to our music therapy session.

Week Beginning 11/6/18 This week we have been continuing with our work on the story of the Gingerbread Man. We have enjoyed lots of tactile play, including ginger-dough, puffy foam and cake mix and used these materials to cut out man shapes or fill cutters. We enjoyed the props from the story, particularly making the Gingerbread Man jump onto the fox and get eaten! We also practised our cutting skills to decorate a large gingerbread man. One afternoon we discovered some gingerbread men had run away, so we went on a hunt around school, catching them and putting them into a bag. On Wednesday some of us helped the Big Build team from Santander, by painting pieces of wood which will go in the sensory garden. As well as all of this, we found the time to explore number songs and phonics activities.

Week Beginning 4/6/18 The first week back has been a very busy one! We have been learning about the Gingerbread Man. We enjoyed a sensory story then re-told it during our play using props and costumes. We also made and decorated gingerbread biscuits and then wiped the table and washed up afterwards. We had a lot of activities linked to the story during our bucket sessions, including catching gingerbread men with a fishing rod and decorating gingerbread men finger puppets before making them run.

Week beginning 21/5/18 This week we have been finishing off learning about Jack and the Beanstalk - counting stickers to make magic beans, finding numbers hidden underneath muddy cows and reading symbols to match them to pictures from the story. We have also been getting royal wedding fever! In bucket this week we took turns being Harry or Meghan and riding in the royal carriage. We also decorated our own hats with stickers independently. The whole class joined in making red, white and blue bunting and cakes for the wedding celebrations on Friday. We really enjoyed the wedding service, especially joining in with the singing and eating the cakes! Have a great half term break.

Week Beginning 14/5/18 This week we have been learning about Jack and the Beanstalk. We had a sensory story and joined in by making the beanstalk grow, banging on the drum like a huge giant and falling asleep like the giant. We have also started stage 4 bucket and really enjoyed watching an adult make a bouncing beanstalk, before having a go at making them ourselves. On Wednesday we had a very exciting day - we explored the big playgrounds, riding on the roundabout and climbing on the new fort. It was very exciting! Then we saw a fire engine, and got to climb inside it.

Week Beginning 7/5/18 This week we have continued with work on the story of The Three Little Pigs. We made story maps and walked the pigs from house to house, we also blew mud all over pigs, using our big, bad, huffing and puffing. Thanks to the lovely weather, we enjoyed PE outside this week. We developed our ball skills, throwing, catching, bouncing and kicking. Finally, we have been continuing to develop our independence by completing tasks on our own at our workstations, and choosing items which help us to feel calm when we need them.

Week beginning 30/5/18 This week we have been learning about the Three Little Pigs. We have enjoyed sensory play with straw, sticks and bricks, and using these materials for building and mark making. We have also continued to explore our emotions and try different strategies for self regulation and calming. We particularly enjoy the weighted blanket and breathing exercises, including huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf.

Week beginning 23/4/18 This week we have been continuing with work on the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have been re-telling the story using props and creating happy and sad pictures of Goldilocks. We have also enjoyed music therapy, number activities and playing with our friends in the courtyard and playground.

Week Beginning 16/4/18 This week we have explored lots of activities linked to the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We explored how the characters were feeling and enjoyed other activities that made us feel happy, like cooking.
